After graduation, Duncan served as branch manager and an assistant vice president during his seven years working in community banking. Later, he started his own small business, J. Duncan & Associates, a South Carolina-based, family-owned real estate marketing firm that specialized in statewide real estate auctions. He ran and operated that business until his election to Congress in 2010.

Sheryl Lynn Biggs (born March 28, 1970 is an American politician from South Carolina. A Republican, she represents South Carolina’s 3rd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives.

In January 2024, one day after Jeff Duncan announced that he would not run for reelection for the United States House of Representatives seat for South Carolina’s 3rd congressional district, Biggs declared her candidacy for the seat in the 2024 elections. She advanced to a runoff election against Mark Burns.[5] Biggs defeated Burns in the runoff[6] and won the general election
